Our Location.
Lochcarron is located on the north-west coast of Scotland, on the mainland opposite the island of Skye, and is set among the most dramatic scenery in Britain. Lochcarron and district is a scattered community of about 1000 people. The main village provides well to meet the needs of tourists, with several shops, hotels, restaurants and craft shops, and is an ideal base for exploring this magnificent area.
We are often asked when is the best time of year to visit the Highlands. But to be honest we feel any time is suitable, in the Spring the air is clean and crisp with snow on hill tops,
while the displays from the rhododendrons and azaleas are fantastic in May.
Summer the days are long, ideal for those who want to cover a lot of ground in their hill walking or touring.

The heather in late summer is certainly worth seeing and when the light is right can take your breath away. Autumn can be spectacular the trees and brackens are golden turning the whole hillside into a smoldering flame when the sun hits it
Winter in Lochcarron sees beautiful snowy hills, and when the snow creeps down into the village it is generally crisps and dry although it may not last for long!
Local amenities.
Lochcarron has a bank with cash machine, a post office, garage and 2 filling stations one open 7 days in the summer. A hairdresser, an excellent game butcher and a well-stocked licensed grocer, (arrangements can be made for groceries to be ordered and delivered in advance). Fresh shell fish can be purchased in Kishorn, at a seafood café, and fresh off the jetty at Strome. There are three hotels offering bar lunches and dinners, a small restaurant and take away, plus a lovely restaurant at Camalt on the south side of the Loch. In the area are several craft workshops including potters, weavers and painters and gift shops. While out touring why not visit the wonderful Victorian Lodges which are now hotels at Achnasheen and Torridon, for a coffee, lunch or dinner. Book your taxi and have a relaxing night out!
